St. Louis County Fire Standards Commission<\/h4>\n

<\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text]Application for admission to the Academy may be made by requesting an application packet:<\/span><\/p>\n

    When you have completed your application packet, you may submit it to our office in person or via U.S. Mail. Incomplete packets will not be accepted.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Application packets will be date and time stamped upon receipt. They will then be reviewed to ensure they are\u00a0complete and accurate and that all requirements have been met.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The tuition fee is $4,635.00, which includes your book and PE clothes. This fee is subject to change.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1498229445232{padding-bottom: 50px !important;}”]

    Point System<\/h2><\/div>
    Placement in a Recruit Class will be based on a point system. Applicants will earn points as follows:<\/span><\/div><\/div>[vc_empty_space]

      Valid Missouri Emergency Medical Technician License<\/h3>

      Honorable Discharge from Active Duty U.S. Military<\/h3>

      1 Additional Point (Provided that the applicant also has a valid Missouri Paramedic License.)<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

      <\/div><\/li><\/ul><\/div>[vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Points will be allocated accordingly during the review process of the application packet.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Applicants will be ranked by number of points first, then by the date and time of receipt of their application packet.<\/span><\/p>\n

      If an applicant is not rostered for the upcoming Recruit Class, they may remain on the admission list without\u00a0reapplying.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

      If an applicant on the list obtains the licensure and\/or approved scholarship required to earn an additional point,\u00a0they will need to contact the Fire Standards Commission to inform them of this change and submit the appropriate\u00a0paperwork to be awarded the point.<\/span><\/p>\n

      At that time, they would advance on the admission list to the appropriate point category. They will also retain the\u00a0date and time stamp of their original application.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column offset=”vc_col-lg-12 vc_col-md-12 vc_col-xs-12″]

      Candidate Physical Ability Test (C.P.A.T.)<\/h2><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text]The C.P.A.T. consists of 8 critical physical tasks that simulate actual job duties on the fire ground. (Stair Climb, Horse Drag, Equipment Carry, Ladder Raise and Extension, Forcible Entry, Search, Rescue, Ceiling Breach and Pull.) The CPAT fee is $150.00. This fee is subject to change.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Applicants with current CPAT certification shall have priority over those without CPAT certification for entry into the St. Louis County Fire Academy.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

      Applicants without CPAT certification will be allowed entry into the Fire Academy but must pass the CPAT in order to graduate with their respective class. It is suggested that applicants obtain CPAT certification prior to applying to the Fire Academy.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

      Candidates who do not pass the CPAT by the end of the course will not be eligible to sit for any of the final exams, will not graduate with their class, and must repeat the entire course at their own expense to obtain St. Louis County certification.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>[\/vc_column_text]

      Class Rostering Eligibility Deadlines<\/h2><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text]There are 3 classes held each year.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Classes begin in January, April and September.<\/span><\/p>\n

      All required items must be submitted by the following deadlines to be eligible for the rostering of the specific class mentioned.<\/span><\/p>\n

      • January Class \u2013 Last Monday in October<\/span><\/li>\n
      • April Class \u2013 Second Monday in January<\/span><\/li>\n
      • September Class \u2013 Last Monday in June<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Required items are as follows:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

        • Complete application packet (background check MUST be submitted with your application.)<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Proof of qualifying points<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Entrance Standards<\/h2><\/div>

          • Age: Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.<\/span><\/li>\n
          • Education: Must have a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.<\/span><\/li>\n
          • Driver’s License: Must possess a valid driver’s license.<\/span><\/li>\n
          • Military: Separation must have been “Under Honorable Conditions.”<\/span><\/li>\n
          • Candidate Physical Ability Test (C.P.A.T.): A CPAT card is not required to apply, but you must successfully pass the CPAT by the end of the class you’re enrolled in. It is strongly recommended to have the card when you apply.<\/span><\/li>\n
          • Medical Insurance: Must have coverage for the entire duration of Class attended.<\/span><\/li>\n
          • Police Record check: Must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or a felony under which the circumstances reasonably affect a person’s competency to perform the duties of a firefighter. Applicants are required to provide a background check from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. It must be a fingerprint based search.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            General Information<\/h2><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text]St. Louis County has 43 different fire departments and fire protection districts. Each agency does its hiring and has its hiring requirements. Therefore, you would need to contact them directly regarding employment.<\/span><\/p>\n

            You must be certified through the St. Louis County Fire Academy to work at any of the 43 fire service agencies in St. Louis County.<\/span><\/p>\n

            There are two ways to go through the Academy.\u00a0One way<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0is to be hired as a full-time, paid firefighter by a fire department or fire protection district in St. Louis County. Anyone hired as such must attend the St. Louis County Fire Academy\u2019s Basic Firefighter Training Program within six months of their employment date. Therefore,\u00a0New Hires<\/strong>\u00a0receive priority in seating in each Academy Class.<\/span><\/p>\n

            While some of the 43 agencies will hire individuals and send them through the Academy, others will only hire those individuals who have already gone through the Academy. In addition, most agencies that hire and send through the Academy require a Paramedic license for employment.<\/span><\/p>\n

            For your information, approximately 1,551 firefighters are presently working at the 43 different agencies in St. Louis County. Of those, 82% are Paramedics, 12% are EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians), and 6% have no EMT licensure. So, as you can see, a Paramedic license is essential when seeking employment within the St. Louis County Fire Service.<\/span><\/p>\n

            The second way<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0to go through the Academy is to participate in the admission process for\u00a0Self Sponsored Students<\/strong>. That process involves obtaining, completing, and submitting an application packet.<\/span><\/p>\n

            As you can see, a Paramedic license is very important when seeking employment within the St. Louis County Fire Service.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text]
